Opening Night Jersey Fouls

On opening night, I encountered two particularly egregious jersey fouls I would like to share with you. While their crimes are different, I believe both deserve attention for the questions that arise from their existence.

First, the Tyler Arnason jersey. While not technically a jersey foul due to its use of an actual roster player, it can be argued that Arnason never really played for the Avalanche. Why would someone want to support such a laughing stock of a player? Are they a family member? Former classmate? Clinically insane?

Last but not least, the clever (but not really) “FTHEWINGS” jersey. This jersey is clearly appealing to the bad blood between Avalanche fans and Red Wings fans that has survived the end of the on ice rivalry between the teams. There are those that would argue that this jersey should get a pass due to its anti-Wings rhetoric, but I disagree. Don’t ruin your team’s jersey to badmouth another. Grow up, get drunk, and get kicked out of the arena for starting fights like an adult.

Which is the greater of these two evils? Pro Tyler or Anti-Wings? Discuss.

Thanks to Puck Daddy and their jersey fouls they post from time to time for making me want to hunt these atrocities down whenever I’m at a game. You can take a look at their series here.

Arnason. Everyone knows that #39 is T.J. Galiardi.

I also saw one with some homemade letters attached to a Sakic jersey. The name, instead of “Sakic”, was “Farewell Captain.” People do such weird stuff to their jerseys.
