In the third day of NHL preseason action the Colorado Avalanche played host to the LA Kings in a 4-3 loss. With a mix of young new players and off season acquisitions the Avs looked to be struggling offensively, posting only 19 shots in comparison to the King’s 41. The game ended with a shootout that was nothing short of boring. LA’s Teddy Burcell posted the only goal, beating goalie Jason Bacashihua.
Other scorers throughout the match included Smyth and Tucker for the Avs, and Stoll and Kopitar for the Kings. While this was only a preseason game I can’t help but wonder if the Avs made the right moves in the offseason. While their usually reliable players did well, not all of our new talent stepped it up as much as may have been expected. Hejduk, Stastny and Sakic all posted assists in the goals that were scored but only 19 shots were taken by the Avs the entire game. This is not the team Denver is used to.
This is, however, only the first game, and I can only hope that Tucker and the rest of the new faces for Colorado will shine.
